URGENT ACTION
KIDS WITH NO SCHOOL
In the remote village of Busicong in Siocon, Zamboanga Del Norte, education is inaccessible to the village children as the only school is a distant boat ride away. As a result, most of the village children do not attend school and the village has a high rate of illiteracy. Both the village and the local department of education want to build a school but there is no funding available. With no education, village children are tempted to join armed rebel groups and MTF believes that education can provide the kids of Busicong a better alternative.
As a first step in combating illiteracy in Busicong, we plan to build a 2 to 3 classroom school. The construction of the school will commence at the start of the next dry season. Hopefully, the school will be ready for school year 2011 – 2012.
Thanks to the fundraising efforts of students from Mount Royal University in Calgary Alberta Canada, we have the required funds of $10,442 to build a school in Busicong.
